On the Block
Just Manny being Manny
In case you have lived in a box during the last week, let me inform you that Manny Ramirez and the Dodgers have finally agreed on a contract. After a four month will of wars, Manny and his agent Scott Boras agreed on a two-year $45 million deal in which he can opt out of the second year to become a free agent.
Say what you want about Ramirez and his antics but know this. His numbers are ridiculous.
After being traded to L.A. on the July 31 trade deadline, Ramirez brought his bat to a team trying to catch up with the Diamondbacks for a seed into the playoffs. And made that happen.
In only 53 games, Manny batted .396, hit 17 bombs and had 53 RBIs.
Imagine what he can do with an entire season?
Arguably the best right-handed hitter to play the game, the Dodgers should feel fortunate to have him in their lineup, right?
Well, that is true if you can stand his antics.
Remember how Manny quit on the Red Sox multiple times during his time in Boston, faked injuries, and played when he wanted too.
Manny being Manny could be a hindrance and liability to the ball club. He will ultimately become a cancer to the Dodgers if he is not motivated or happy.
So the question becomes…will Manny’s tremendous hitting ability outweigh his shenanigans? Or will his antics prevent the team from achieving their true potential?
