The Exceptions
Teenage boys are dangerous
What have I learned this week?
Teenage boys are dangerous, really dangerous.
This week I found an alarming trend of teenage-boy violence in the news. Two puppies, a teacher and a student are dead because of these dangerous teens. Things could have been even worse, but luckily another boy’s hit list was found before he was able to act on it.
A huge news story this week was about Derrion Albert, a 16-year-old high school student from Chicago. Albert was beaten to death by four of his fellow students on Thursday, as reported in a story by CNN.com. Prosecutors said that Albert was a bystander during a fight betweens two groups of students. Four teens have been charged with first-degree murder and more arrests are expected, according to CNN.
Todd Henry, a high school teacher in Tyler, Texas, was stabbed by a 16-year-old student last Wednesday, according to KLTV-TV. The student has been charged with Capital Murder. A staff member and three other students were in a classroom with the teen and their teacher. The student took out a weapon and stabbed his teacher.
Another 16-year-old boy, from Jacksonville, Fla., was arrested this week and charged with burglary and animal cruelty, according to WJXT-TV. Four months ago the boy allegedly threw a cage with two puppies in it into a swimming pool. The cage sank to the bottom of the pool and both puppies drowned.
In Detroit on Tuesday a 15-year-old was charged with creating a disturbance in a school because he had made a hit list of school staff members he wanted to kill, according to WDIV-TV. Another student alerted the authorities of the list and the student who made the list was arrested.
I was surprised to see this trend in teenage boy and school violence. I hope these young men are just the exceptions though.
