My Favorite Things

Dog Halloween costumes, scary?

While looking around for a Halloween costume for myself, I couldn’t help but notice the endless possibilities there are for dogs. So, my favorite thing this week is the ever-necessary dog Halloween costume.

While dressing up dogs isn’t really a new trend, it seems to have graduated to a new level. One “dog clothing” Web site offers these selections for browsing: costumes, Christmas, sleeveless, sleeved, sweaters, dresses, coats, accessories, swimwear, bed and bath, dog tutus, sports, wedding, pants/shorts, diapers, by designer and dog shoes.

What scares me more than the fact that there are so many choices, is the thought of what people are purchasing the outfits for. Are there really dog clothing designers that are better than others? Would a Chihuahua know the difference between a sleeveless or sleeved shirt? What kind of dog needs a “sports” outfit to catch a Frisbee?

The costumes section holds a wide selection of outfits ranging from clowns to sharks. My favorite of all the extravagant dog costumes out there for this Halloween is the Scarlett O’Hara burgundy satin and black lace dress. While some dogs may be too self conscious to trot around in such an elegant piece, it is the perfect costume for dogs who enjoy reading classic works of literature. It can be found here.

Maybe it’s time for you to order a dog costume. It’s probably a good idea to get a dog as well.
