Bra thefts plague Florida, feline influx burdens shelter, church janitor needs raise
‘Bra Bandit’ strikes again in southwest Florida
This story hits close to home. Someone stole 160 bras Thursday from a Bonita Springs Victoria’s Secret store. And this wasn’t the first brassiere burglary to hit the area.
Since February, 452 bras have been stolen from two store locations in southwest Florida. Six separate bra thefts have been reported, and the stolen bras are valued at a whopping total of $25,000. Quick math – that’s about $40 per bra; yeah, they’re pretty overpriced.
The store manager told police that a woman entered the store and went straight to a cabinet filled with PINK brand bras. Once the employees weren’t looking, she filled a bag and left.
I’d assume that the bra bandit is just selling the underwear to make a pretty Pink profit, but in my mind, I’m imagining her as a 20-something sorority girl who’s getting a jump start on Christmas. (AP)
86 cats rescued from 2-bedroom condo in Colorado
An animal shelter in Glenwood Springs, Colo., is having a busy week. The shelter received 86 cats rescued from a two-bedroom condo Wednesday, all in need of a home and a bath. Officials said a cat lady took in the strays and realized she couldn’t take care of them while moving out of her condo.
According to the shelter’s director, the cats seemed healthy, and no charges were filed against the woman. But you have to wonder: Couldn’t she have eased the transition? She could have dropped off 10 cats a week at the shelter for two months in between packing up boxes and holding garage sales instead of dropping this bomb on them.
Best part of this story: It happened in Garfield County. (AP)
Church welcomes pious pets
Two pet stories in one week, yes! Pilgrim Congregational Church in Weymouth, Mass. Has implemented weekly “Woof ‘n’ Worship” services on Sundays. As you’ve probably guessed, this is a mass held for people and their dogs.
The Rev. Rachel Bickford came across a Psalm about “letting all living things praise the Lord” while her own dogs were at her feet. After what must have been a divinely inspired lightbulb moment, Bickford came up with the idea for doggie worship services.
I have a lot of questions that were left unanswered by this story. The most obvious of these questions being, how do they keep the dogs from relieving themselves up and down the church aisles? And what about cats? Are we living in an era of pet segregation? Regardless of your religious convictions, anything to keep your pets from being cooped up in the house is probably a good thing. (AP)
